ŞEYMA KAYA
(1999, Istanbul, Türkiye) Continues her work in Istanbul.
In her works, she aims to address the unknown elements in the painting by using conceptual and visual depth together in the surface she creates. The text, symbols, and images she uses create a neutral identity independent of their meanings. The instructions given within the painting immerse the viewer into a puzzle and engage the mental process. The color scheme is what leads the instructions to a point.
In this context, experimental approaches between subject and object are present in her works. The abstract use of space provides unity with the lively subject while also falling into contradiction. This dilemma creates new questions, as the subject that is contradictory to the space gradually solidifies and becomes part of the space.
While the cold intensity of colors moves across the surface, it ends at a warm point in the text. The language she creates appears in her paintings through various methods. The uncertainty of the text allows for examination through plastic language and at the same time focuses on a point in the painting. The text, by going beyond the expression it contains, becomes a plastic part of the painting.
